Sophomore Adam Peterson knocked home the game-winner off an assist from junior Steve Wilczewski with just under 15 minutes to play, lifting Drury to a 1-0 victory over Columbia College in the Panthers' season opener Saturday night at Harrison Stadium.
Peterson's second career goal, at 75:10 and from approximately two yards out, got the Panthers on the board in a game they played without last year's record-setting goal-scorer, Marco Cherisma, who sat out for a card violation at the end of last season. The Panthers were also without sophomore standout defender Ben Taylor for the same reason.
Junior keeper Logan Hoffman picked up his fifth career shutout, coming up with two saves in the contest. The Panthers and Cougars - who lost two players during the contest to red cards - each managed seven shots.
Drury (1-0) returns to action next Sunday, traveling to Searcy, Ark., for a 2:30 p.m. contest with Harding University.
