ST. PAUL, Minn - Led by sophomore Jaime Villa Zapatero's second-place finish individually, the 18th-ranked Drury University men's cross country team captured first place at the Roy Griak Cross Invitational held Saturday at the Les Bolstad Golf Course.
Villa Zapatero crossed the finish line in 25:27. Drury's Geoff Hughes was 14th and Derek Berry finished right behind him in 16th.
Drury won the men's team title with 109 points to distance themselves from runner-up Pittsburg State (120) in the 22 team field.
In the women's division, the Panthers finished 20th in the 24-team field with 518 points. Augustana was the runaway winner with 54 points, far ahead of runner-up Pittsburg State (129).
Individually for the DU women, junior Kim Shigeno finished 93rd to lead the Panthers, with a time of 25:18. Sophomore Tia Young finished 97th in 25:27. Morgan Price, a senior for Minnesota-Duluth, was the individual winner in 22:17.
Drury returns to action on Saturday, October 11 at the Harding Invitational in Searcy, Arkansas.
