One of the Ozarks' most popular fund-raising events, the Bee Payne-Stewart Strut, is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start on Saturday, April 25 at the Jordan Valley Park.
The Bee Payne-Stewart Strut is to help recognize nationally institutions like Drury University, Evangel University, and Missouri State University for academic and athletic excellence, as well as representing The Park and the Women’s Intersports Network (WIN) along with our community, Springfield, MO with dignity and honor.
The Bee Payne-Stewart Strut has benefited women’s athletics programs and youth programs in Springfield. The Strut has provided much needed funds for these programs to continue to grow and excel academically and athletically. This is a unique opportunity for five programs to come together and to help each other reach great heights. The funds raised have made a difference in the lives of outstanding young women and children for years to come and continue to build a strong foundation for women’s athletics in our area.
Our Honorary Co-Chairs for the past two years have been State Representative Sara Lampe and Greene County Commissioner Roseann Bentley who have both been strong supporters of women’s sports initiatives in the Springfield area.
How the Strut Works:
There is a team concept associated with the Strut. We will have team captains recruit walkers for a team. Each member of the team contacts people to obtain donations to support their walking. These donations apply to the individual walker’s total. These donations apply to the individual walker’s total, which will qualify that walker for incentive prizes for individual and team prizes. We are asking each walker that participates to collect a minimum of $25 to be eligible for any incentive prize.
WHEN and WHERE:
The STRUT will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Jordan Valley Park on April 25, 2009. Both men and women may walk and/or run. There will be a 1.4 mile loop around downtown Springfield. If you cannot attend or cannot walk, you may still make a donation.
PRIZES
There will be prizes and special drawings for all participants. But you must turn in your $25.00 donation early. Prizes given out in the past have included items from each university, dinner certificates at local restaurants, a Cruise for 2 from Great Southern Travel, and jewelry from Marilyn's Fine Jewelry.

Your donations will be helping the young women athletes and kids in our community to make their athletic experience one they can be proud of and cherish for a lifetime. There will be incentive prizes for you to receive if your donations reach certain levels. In order to qualify for these incentive gifts and special drawings, you must have your donations in to the Bee Payne-Stewart Strut Office at 1923 N. Weller, Springfield, MO 65803 by April 17, 2009.
