Drury Men Finish Third at Great Lakes Valley/MIAA Challenge Meet

ROLLA - Junior Derek Berry finished in second place to lead the nation's 20th ranked Drury men's cross country team to a third place finish at the Great Lakes Valley/MIAA Challenge Meet here on Saturday.

Berry completed the 8,000 meter in 24:33.8, just behind winner Drew Harris of Northern Kentucky who finished with a time of 24:17.9 in the field of 102 runners.

Steven Bush finished ninth in 25:05.6 and senior Geoff Hughes was 16th followed by Case Van Arkel in 17th.   Missouri Southern claimed the team title with 53 points, followed by Pittsburg State at 61, Drury with 78, Southern Indiana 90 and Truman State with 104 to round out the top five.

Today's meet was considered one of the top regional cross country meets of the season and featured five teams ranked in the top 25 with #10 Southern Indiana, #14 Southwest Baptist, #19 Missouri Southern State, #20 Drury and #23 Pittsburg State.

Both Drury squads return to action October 24 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.
