Villa Zapatero Finishes 30th To Lead Panthers At OSU Cowboys Jamboree

STILLWATER, Okla. - Junior Jaime Villa Zapatero finished in 30th place to lead the Drury men's cross country efforts at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree here on Saturday.

Villa Zapatero completed the 8K run in 24:56.20, a race won by Northern Arizona's Jordan Chipangama in 23:44.70 in the field of 245 runners.

Derek Berry finished 75th in 25:39.50 and Case Van Arkel 90th in 25:53.80 also for the Panthers, who finished 11th as a team with 342 points. Northern Arizona won the meet with 52 points, followed by William & Mary with 59 points and Adams State in third with 69.

In the women's 5K race, senior Stephanie Cowherd was Drury's top finisher, crossing the line in 19:26.80 to finish in 116th place. Freshman Brenda Valera was next in 142nd place for the Panthers, finishing in 20:03.00, while freshman Lindsay Dukewits was 149th in 20:10.20.

Lillian Badaru of Texas Tech won the women's race in 17:10.50, leading the Red Raiders to the team championship with 36 points.Drury finished 22nd with 633 points.

Drury returns to action next Saturday in Rolla, competing in the GLVC/MIAA Challenge.
