Panthers Tied For Lead After One Round of UIS Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Freshman Shawn Vanderwal fired a 3-under-par 69 and Drury is tied for the team lead after the opening round of the University of Illinois-Springfield Invitational being played at the Rail Golf Course.

Junior Andrew Funk added a 2-under-par 70 and junior Thomas Hay an even-par 72 to propel the Panthers to a 287 total, tied with Missouri-St. Louis for the first-day lead in the nine-team field.

Junior Kyle Martin added a 76 and senior Blake Kelley had a 78 for the Panthers.

Matt Rau of UMSL is the individual leader after opening with a 5-under-par 67 in the 36-hole meet, which concludes with a final 18 on Monday.

Plemmons, a redshirt freshman, registered her first career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in just 16 minutes of playing time to help Drury beat Quincy in the GLVC Tournament quarterfinals Sunday at Weiser.
