Panther Golfers Finish Second At UIS Invitational

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Drury University's Panthers, led by a third-place finish from freshman Shawn Vanderwal, finished second as a team as the Illinois-Springfield Invitational came to a close Monday afternoon at the par-72 Rail Golf Course.

Vanderwal fired a 3-over-par 75 total that left him at 144 for the tourney, two shots behind winner Matt Rau of Missouri-St. Louis. Juniors Andrew Funk (70-76 146) and Thomas Hay (72-74 146) finished in a tie for seventh for the Panthers.

After opening with a 1-under-par 287 on Sunday, Drury shot a 302 in Monday's final round for a 589 total that was eight shots behind winner Wisconsin-Parkside (293-288 581) in the nine-team field.

Other DU scores and finishes were a tie for 22nd from junior Kyle Martin (76-77 153) and a tie for 31st from senior Blake Kelley (78-79 157).

The Panthers return to action next Sunday and Monday in the North Alabama Classic in Florence, Ala.

Warren was named to the all-tournament team after registering 123 assists and 40 digs and helping the Panthers to a 1-3 finish at the Extended Stay Seven Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska.

Volleyball
Hopkins also was selected to the all-tournament team after picking up a team-high 41 kills with a .349 attack percentage in helping the Panthers to a 1-3 finish in the Extended Stay Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska, last weekend.
