Drury Finishes 27th In Final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Standings For 2008-09 Year

Drury University finished in 27th place among the 233 NCAA Division II members who picked up points for national athletic success in the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings for the 2008-09 sports year.

The Panthers finished with 414 total points, boosted by the 100 points each they received for their national championships in both men's and women's swimming and diving. Drury also picked up points for women's basketball (25) last winter, women's golf (47), men's golf (5), women's tennis (64) and men's tennis (73) from the spring sports. The points are awarded based on a team's finish in the NCAA tournament of their respective sport.

Grand Valley State finished with 1014.5 points to easily outdistance runner-up Mankato (Mn.) State (800.25) to capture its sixth straight D-II Directors' Cup title, with Central Missouri third at 776, Abilene Christian (721) fourth and Great Lakes Valley Conference member Indianapolis (695) in fifth.

Another GLVC member, Northern Kentucky (456.50 points), finished in 17th. After Drury at No. 27, next among league members were Southern Indiana (53rd, 305 points), Missouri S & T (91st, 233.5 points), Lewis (98th, 214.5 points), Rockhurst (104th, 200 points) to complete the upper divison of league finishers.

Among other schools of regional interest: Missouri Southern finished 61st with 248.75 points and Southwest Baptist was 92nd with 225.5.

Warren was named to the all-tournament team after registering 123 assists and 40 digs and helping the Panthers to a 1-3 finish at the Extended Stay Seven Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska.
Kyrie Hopkins
Volleyball
Hopkins also was selected to the all-tournament team after picking up a team-high 41 kills with a .349 attack percentage in helping the Panthers to a 1-3 finish in the Extended Stay Invitational in Anchorage, Alaska, last weekend.
