PITTSBURG, KS - Drury's Jaime Villa Zapatero led a very stong Panther track and field performance with a meet record time of 8:48.07 in the 3,000 meter at the Pittsburg State Invitational here of Friday.
Other winners for the Drury men were Geoff Hughes in the 1 mile (4:36.94) and Nick Gray in the 800 meter (2:03.94). Derek Berry came in second behind Hughes in the mile and Steven Busch and Matt Duncan turned in a pair of third place finishes in the 8000 and 800 meters respectively.
On the women's side Drury had three runners that finished second in their races: Brenda Varela in the 1 mile (5:41.81), Sara Murzynsky in the 800 meter (2:31.65) and Hayley Brown in the 200 meter (28.14). Katie Berkbigler took third in the 800 meter for the Panthers.
"This meet was all about competition and our Panthers and Lady Panthers did very well,"said track and field coach Don Keeton.
Next up for the Drury Track and Field teams is the Great Lakes Valley Conference Indoor Championships on February 26-27 in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
