Drury's basketball Panthers have added their third player to the 2010-11 recruiting class with a commitment from The Barstow School guard Shane Rudman.
Rudman is a 6-foot-2 shooting guard who averaged 12 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Kansas City, Mo., high school playing for former Kansas standout Jeff Boschee. Rudman was a three-year starter for Barstow, helping the squad to a 69-11 record and earning team Most Valuable Player honors and all-conference and all-district status as a senior.
Boschee stated that Rudman shot 54 percent from behind the 3-point line and better than 80 percent from the foul line this past season, and that "Shane's shooting ability brought a great deal of confidence to our team."
Drury coach Steve Hesser said Rudman's shooting touch will be a plus as he attempts to compete for playing time next season with the Panthers, who return four starters from a team that finished 23-7 and qualified for the NCAA-II Tournament for the fourth time in the past six seasons.
"We know he's a quality kid who took on a strong leadership role with his high school team, and that's the kind of young student athletes we like to bring into our program," Hesser said.
Rudman joins a pair of transfers - 6-6 forwards JaJuan Maxwell (Southeast Missouri State) and Julius Verdun (Triton College) - as newcomers to the program next season. Maxwell has one season of eligbility remaining while Verdun can play two for the Panthers.
