The Drury basketball Panthers have added two more pieces to the puzzle for the 2010-11 season with the signings of Lewis & Clark (Ill.) Community College forward Justin Jones and Wylie (Texas) High School guard Antwan Scott to NCAA letters-of-intent.
The 6-foot-4 Jones is from East St. Louis, Ill., where he starred at Althoff High School in Belleville. Jones averaged 10.0 points and 5.3 rebounds last season for the Trailblazers of coach (and former University of Illinois basketball star) Deon Thomas, who finished 26-7 last season in NJCAA Division II.
Scott is a 6-foot-1 combo guard who averaged 21.8 points last season, the second leading scorer in Class 5A in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. He led Wylie to a 19-11 record and a state playoff berth as a senior, when he was named Offensive Most Valuable Player of the district. He was also the 66th-ranked player in the state of Texas according to Mike Kunstadt's Texas Basketball Review.
"Antwan is a talented guard who has the ability to score from anywhere on the floor and will bring offensive punch to our lineup," Drury coach Steve Hesser said. "Justin is a very athletic player with a high motor who played on a team that went to the (juco) national tournament, and like Antwan, he knows what it takes to win. We believe both will be excellent fits in this recruiting class and with our returning group."
Jones and Scott join Southeast Missouri State transfer forward JaJuan Maxwell, Triton (Ill.) College transfer forward Julius Verdun and Barstow High School guard Shane Rudman as part of the 2010-11 recruiting class for the Panthers, who were 23-7 last season and made their fourth NCAA-II Tournament appearance in the last six years.
