New Drury softball coach Chantiel Wilson has announced the addition of a pair of transfers for the Panthers, with former Abilene Christian standouts Andi Anti and Shawna Barrow following Wilson to DU.
Both are California natives - having spent two years at Palomar Community College before transferring to ACU - and both are projected infielders as seniors for the Panthers in their one remaining season of competition.
The 5-foot-3 Barrow, a utility player for Abilene Christian, hit .375 with 42 runs and 45 stolen bases in 48 attempts last season, while the 6-foot Anti, a shortstop, hit .296 with six homers and 18 RBIs for a Wildcats team that finished 21-31.
Anti's '09 campaign included a 3-for-3 day with two homers and four RBIs in a win over Saint Mary's, one of nine multi-hit efforts in 43 starts last season. Barrow, a Second Team All-Lone Star Conference South Division selection, had a team-high 69 hits, drove in 27 runs and struck out just eight times in 184 at-bats. She also posted separate hitting streaks of 12, 8 and 7 games over the course of her junior season.
"Andi is a great athlete, quick and very agile," Wilson says. "She is a tremendous defensive player with great range and a strong arm. She's a consistent threat at the plate and can hit for power. She's a hard worker and a great leader who will help solidify our infield.
"Shawna is an all-around talented athlete who can bunt and slap for base hits as well as hit for power from the left side. She's a true utility player, but will most likely play an infield position for us. She works hard on the field and in the classroom and will provide great leadership on and off the field."
Both Anti and Barrow plan to finish their degrees in criminal justice at Drury. They will join a Panthers softball program coming off a 22-30 campaign last spring, including a 12-13 mark in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
