ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - Lewis tallied on a Arlind Kociu goal just 4:34 into overtime to lift the Flyers to a 1-0 victory over Drury in the Great Lakes Valley Conference women's soccer opener for both schools Monday afternoon.
Drury fell to 1-2 and 0-1 with the loss, while Lewis improved to 1-1 and 1-0.
The Panthers fell for the second time on this opening three-game road trip despite outshooting the Flyers 15-10, including a 13-5 advantage in the second period. Both Lewis keeper Megan George and DU keeper Jessie Sanderson were credited with five saves each.
Drury returns to the road with a GLVC match at Quincy on Friday before visiting Illinois-Springfield in league play on Sunday. The Panthers will play their home opener on Friday, September 17 when Northeastern State visits Harrison Stadium for a 1:30 p.m. non-conference clash.
