Ammann's Goal Lifts No. 24 Drury Soccer To 1-0 Victory over S&T In GLVC Championships Opening Round

Nick Ammann's goal just 14 minutes into the match stood up for No. 24 Drury, as the second-seeded Panthers picked up a 1-0 victory over Missouri Science & Technology on Sunday at Harrison Stadium in the Curry Sports Complex to move into the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships semifinals next weekend.

Drury (15-3-0) will play No. 6 seed Indianapolis - a 2-0 upset winner over third-seed Missouri-St. Louis - in next Friday's semifinals in Quincy, Ill.
Top-seed and nationally sixth-ranked Quincy defeated No. 8 seed Bellarmine 2-1 and No. 4 seed Lewis downed fifth-seed Rockhurst 1-0 to advance. The Hawks and Flyers will play each other next Friday, with the two semifinal winners meeting for the GLVC title on Sunday in Quincy.

Indianapolis' 10-5-3 record includes a 1-0 loss at Drury in the GLVC opener for both teams on September 19 at Harrison/Curry.

The Panthers advanced to the GLVC tourney semis for the third time in the last four years and fourth time in coach Ryan Swan's six seasons by beating Missouri S&T for the second time in five days. Drury also picked up a 1-0 win over the Miners on Wednesday, when the game's only goal again was scored by Ammann (that time, in the 82nd minute).

This time, Drury grabbed the early lead on Ammann's eighth goal (and team-leading fifth game-winner) of the season and then held off the Miners (8-8-2) from there for a ninth shutout of the season by keeper Logan Ponche.

"It was great to get the win today," Swan said. "I thought we played very well and created a number of good opportunities. Our focus now is on Indy. We had a tough game against them earlier this year and we expect another battle."

Indianapolis defeated Drury 3-2 in overtime in last year's semifinals, also in Quincy.

The Panthers finished the season 9-0 at home. Their 15 wins this season ties for the second most in the program's history, equalling the 1993 DU squad. Drury won a school-record 21 games (21-2) in 2009, Swan's first season at the helm.
