UIndy Stuns No. 17 DU Soccer With Goal In Final Minute For 1-0 Victory In GLVC Championship Semifinals

QUINCY, Ill. - Casey Zimmerman's goal with 36 seconds remaining in regulation allowed sixth-seed Indianapolis to stun No. 2 seed Drury 1-0 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championship tournament semifinals at Legends Stadium on Friday night.

As a result, Drury moves to 15-4-0 and now awaits Monday evening's NCAA tournament bid announcement to see if its resume' stands up for one of five spots in the NCAA-II MIdwest Regional tourney. The Panthers were fourth in the regional rankings released on Wednesday of this week.

It was a second straight year of heartbreak in the same scenario on the same field for coach Ryan Swan's Panthers, who rallied in the final six minutes to tie it at 2-all, then watched UIndy score the game-winner less than two minutes into overtime of a 3-2 triumph over Drury in the 2013 GLVC tourney semifinals.

Indianapolis, which had lost to the Panthers 1-0 in Springfield on September 19, improved to 11-5-3 and was awaiting the winner of Friday's late Quincy-Lewis semifinal winner for Sunday's 2 p.m. GLVC title game in Quincy.

The Panthers outshot the Greyhounds 10-8 in this one, but Zimmerman's goal from 15 yards out off a cross from Patrick O'Brien proved the difference on a 35-degree evening with winds blowing out of the north.

"It was a tough game to lose," Swan said. "We played well at times and created several quality chances. Ultimately, we weren't sharp enough in front of the goal and Indy capitalized when their chance opened up."

Ben Bruce had three shots and Jack Mathis took two for the Panthers, who matched the Greyhounds with two shots on goal. UIndy had five corner kicks to four by DU.
