SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Drury Lady Panthers head coach
Molly Miller has announced the signing of three players for the 2018-19 season including one of the top prep stars in central Illinois.
Okaw Valley High School guard Paige Robinson, last year's Area Player of the Year by the Decatur Herald-Review, and the Female Winter Athlete of the Year by the Shelbyville Daily Union has committed to play collegiately for the Lady Panthers.
The Bethany, Illinois native averaged 21.6 points last year to go with 5.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 3.4 steals per game as a junior. She scored a season-high 35 points in a game and topped 30 points five times with two of those games coming in the state playoffs. Robinson went for more than 20 points in 18 other games.
"Paige is one of the top guards in Illinois and generated tons of college interest and had multiple Division I offers," said Lady Panthers head coach
Molly Miller. "Her abilities as a basketball player, her competitive drive to win, and her character as a person are big reasons she is the perfect fit for our program. Our fans will love some instant offense that she has the ability to create as well as her basketball IQ. She is a hard worker and will be a big contributor to our program's success. I'm thrilled she is joining our Lady Panther family."
Troy-Buchanan High School product Adene Edwards has also signed with Drury. The 6-3 center averaged 10.4 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game last year. She was a First Team All-South Division selection in the Gateway Athletic Conference last year and was on that league's All-Sportsmanship Team.
"Adene is another Division-I caliber player that has the some of the greatest potential I have ever seen in a player," stated Miller. "Her presence in the paint will be daunting for teams we face and her athleticism will be a huge asset. The fast-paced style of basketball we play and her coachability will compliment Adene's game. The sky is the limit for Adene as it will be fun to watch her growth as a basketball player and a person in our program. We can't wait for her to join the Drury family."
5-11 forward Shelby Myers will also join the Lady Panthers next year. Myers averaged eight points and six rebounds per game at Effingham High School. The 5-11 forward had a game-high 21 points and a had a 15-rebound game last season. Myers was an honorable mention all-area selection by the Decatur Herald-Review.
"Shelby and Paige played AAU together, so it will be nice to continue that on-court chemistry they have already developed," said Miller. "Shelby's grit and determination are some of her best qualities as a basketball player. Her work ethic and toughness align perfectly with what our program is all about. We welcome Shelby to our basketball family and I look forward to coaching someone with her passion and focus."
The Drury Lady Panthers are ranked seventh in the NCAA-II preseason coaches' poll and open the season on Friday at Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville, Tennessee. Drury's first regular season home game is on Nov. 18 against Missouri Western State.
